FIRE PROTECTION

THIS IS NOT AN EXTRA, IT'S A MANDATORY PROGRAM

When things get dicey

Planning reliability with a system

When the term fire protection is mentioned, the focus in technical building equipment is often on major issues such as sprinkler systems or fire doors. However, the fastening of pipes, cable routes and ventilation ducts can also become a weak point in the case of fire, if they have not been professionally planned and executed.

MEFA offers tested solutions for maximum planning reliability. Whether single fastening, multiple fastening or special installation situations - with our fire protection certificates, planners and installers have the option of safely implementing all common fastening types in accordance with MLAR.

Fire protection is not an extra - it's a must. When planning or installing technical systems, fire protection must be thought through down to the last detail. Profile rails, pipe clamps and consoles are essential for safety in an emergency. Our tested and documented systems not only meet the requirements, but also the obligation to provide evidence.

CALCULATION METHOD ACCORDING TO TECHNICAL BUILDING EQUIPMENT (TGA) GUIDELINES

Until now, products have been divided into two types for fire protection design in accordance with TGA guidelines. Using the calculation method according to DIN EN 1993-1-2 (Eurocode 3), we can provide a stress analysis for all mounting rails and heavy-duty profiles in our range with regard to load-bearing capacity. A statement on deformation can be made for our CENTUM® profiles due to the closed profile. This means that a wide range of products can be used for planning and design purposes, allowing for a wide range of combinations. A corresponding overview of our product range can be found here.

We also have various products in our portfolio that have been fire-tested and certified by the MPA in accordance with RAL-GZ 656-B and therefore bear the corresponding seal of approval. This enables us to make and verify specific statements about the changes in length of pipe clamps alone or in combination with threaded rods in the case of fire, depending on the fire resistance period.

NOW NEW:

CALCULATION METHOD WITH DEFORMATION VERIFICATION

Particularly where space is limited, such as under a fire-retardant suspended ceiling, precise verification of the change in length of mounting systems under the influence of temperature is repeatedly required in construction projects. If, for example, a pipe is thermally stressed in the case of fire, the installed components expand, sometimes significantly. Without precise knowledge of this change in length, collisions with adjacent components, loss of function or, in the worst case, failure of the entire installation can occur. The exact calculation of this expansion is therefore essential for planning reliability and structural fire protection.

With this in mind, we subjected our Stex 45 mounting rail (45/45/2.5) in combination with the profile holder combi and tooth plate S to extensive fire tests at the Materials Testing Institute (MPA).

For a practical calculation, various installation positions were examined, such as suspended mounting rails, with a slot position at the top or bottom, or mounted directly on the ceiling. Based on the test results and the expert opinion of the MPA, we have developed a new calculation method that determines the exact change in length of the entire system - “from the dowel to the pipe clamp!” The output report of the calculation including a detailed representation of the installation is your proof!
